Jack, his queen, and his trusted Advisor, the Dark Prism, paused to speak with Kron and Cabe before passing through the Fangs. As both confidently professed their decision to stay at Emberstone to help train guards and Heroes, the tall Assassin Farah appeared from the shadows behind them and assured her king that she would put her subjects to good use as they made ready for war on Pinefall. The group sorted out minor trade details and then planned to all meet back where they stood in three days- possibly with another new Town joined to the Kingdom.

Beyond the safety of the defensive lightning towers, Harrak was found drilling what he called ‘inexperienced meat’ and only paused briefly to give his daughter a hug and Jack a firm handshake before the Combat Master got back to work.

The final light of the day had faded somewhere along the pleasant walk down the paved white road, and Jack just listened as Lex and Haylee went back-and-forth about the new guild idea. Where would it be founded? Blackmoor Cove or somewhere else? Should there be a vow made on joining? Could anyone join? Lex pushed for the idea of a separate Hero sect where special “Tower cheesing” lessons would be taught, but Haylee was against the idea of dividing everything up so soon. They moved from one point to another, and not a lot was decided on, but it was probably good to start laying out all the questions before trying to set anything into stone.

He also focused now and then on the new wildlife filling in the landscape around them. Some bug that sounded like a drunk cricket started up out in the grass, and its song was joined by the calls of several Lycopex crooning at each other from a distance. There was an underlying alien feel to the odd yet familiar noises of the night. With a deep inhalation of cooler air tasting more like the sea, Jack let his land wash over him and fully accepted everything it was.

This was home.

Before long, the soft, deep-blue words “Our World” appeared against the night in the distance and all conversation ended.

“For some reason I thought it might have vanished while we were gone,” Lex whispered eventually.

“Me too!” Haylee said, whirling on her. “Blackmoor is all I’ve really known. And it has always felt so fragile.”

They shared a glance for a moment before Lex let out a snort of a laugh.

“Now we are bending our wills toward trying to break it!”

Haylee gave her a rare smile before several melodious horn calls echoed to them off the rolling hills. It was much more complex than the normal returning Heroes pattern they’d established.

“A royal fanfare?” Jack said, unsure if that particular custom was something he wanted them doing.

Sol, Thymus, and Ryea greeted them at the gate as well as the Captain of the Guard, Kev.

“Thank you for returning my daughter to me,” Sol said after a round of quick hugs and handshakes.

Jack crossed his arms.
